⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Alice
Age: Thirteen. (Possibly up to 113, time is complicated.)
Canon: Pandora Hearts
Canon Point: Shortly after she regains her memories, but before she pops back into the human world.

Background: Wiki Link

Personality:

Alice is one of those people who's easy to sum up. Despite all the plot threads going on with hidden agendas and time travel and every other character lying through their teeth about ten things at once, Alice is direct, honest, and relatively uncomplicated. If she likes something, it's no secret. If she doesn't like someone, she'll say so. Or scream so. She's not subtle. She's arguably not terribly bright, either. She's shown some capacity for trickery and deceit, managing to act like her sister well enough to fool Jack, one of the most cunning sneaks in the series. Incidentally, this was when the world was literally falling apart, and she still took the time to gloat over tricking him after she'd got his plan out of him.

She really enjoys bragging - mostly this is over her physical accomplishments, but she's also got an ego over her forceful personality, and feels as though she's inherently great. She grew up in a time bubble in which she was kind of. Literally the center of the universe, so that's probably where a great deal of that comes from. And then when she landed in the human world, she was put in a tower and spoiled rotten by her uncle, so that's another thing. And then she spent some time floating around in hell with no memories, surviving by means of terrifying occult powers, and then she was captured/adopted/allied with a supernatural secret agency and got a very spotty and half-assed education of how living in normal human society is supposed to work. She still doesn't really understand the concept of money, but she gets that she can get things she wants by bossing around people who do understand it. The time she spent in the post-golden Abyss doesn't get as much detail as I'd want, but it seems to be full of anarchy and deception and the strong taking what they want, and that's where the bulk of her actual life experience has been. She's a fairly lonely person because of these experiences, so she tends to get attached to displays of kindness and so on and then there's no getting rid of her. Okay, getting rid of her is honestly pretty easy, she's a very out of sight out of mind kind of person.

So, she's used to getting her own way, and she's stubborn and strong of will about this. She's emotionally intelligent enough to work out what is and isn't acceptable to get pushy over after trial and error (screaming at a grown man and calling him names is fine, threatening other young girls with knives is not fine, overturning furniture is fine, trying to kill people who are trying to kill Oz is not fine, kicking them in the head is acceptable). She's had the kind of upbringing where she knows how to dress up and dance like a fine lady but is also distinctly feral. Like, her emotional reaction to anything has decent odds of "BITE IT" in there somewhere, and she's been shown like this ever since she was a toddler, floating around in the Abyss and chewing on the (sentient) stuffed rabbit her mother left her while her sister cuddled with it nicely.

She's a greedy person by nature, and the kind of greed that's about experiencing things and having them for a moment rather than hoarding. She values experiences more than possessions, unless you count people as possessions. She's not as bad as her sister, but she does get very clingy, for better or worse. She bonds with a number of people over the course of the series, and no two relationships are alike. She calls Oz her servant, and means it partly in the sense that as the boss, it's her job to make sure he's safe and happy (this is a hard job, because Oz has no sense of self-preservation whatsoever). She has what are probably romantic feelings for him, but she hasn't had that explained to her either, so that manifests in the form of biting him on the face. She bosses around and fights with Gilbert, but one of the handful of times she gets upset over someone else to the point of being in tears is after he loses his arm. Which she says is because it'll be harder for him to cook and pat her head. This isn't a tsundere thing, she honestly means what she says, she's fond of him mostly because he does things for her and because she feels safe around him, but that doesn't mean she's not fond of him. Alice morality, it is a thing. And she'll risk or straight up sacrifice her life for her loved ones. The obvious example being the time she cut her own throat because Jack was 1. going to use her to destroy the world and 2. was making her best friend really upset in the process, both of those things were of great importance. And that tendency comes up in other things, like a prank in which she was convinced one of her friends was a vampire and unhappily volunteered to let her suck out her life force in order to survive.

I should also mention that for half the important and emotional plot and backstory discussions in canon she is present but not participating in the discussion at all because she is bored and would rather eat. So that's going to be fun for the apathy scale until something happens she can be proactive at. She's not great at thinking, and would much rather act. Or eat. Or yell at people until life stops being sad and bullshit.

Abilities:

Her true abilities boil down to being able to move souls into other bodies. She doesn't do it lightly, and her soul has to be outside her own body to do it in the first place, but that's a thing she can do. Of course, if I have her use it on someone else it's going to be (OOCly) opt-in.

The soul powers go weird and out of control when she's sick, and do stuff like create a bunch of tiny versions of herself when she's asleep.

Alignment: Aiada! So much of Alice is wrapped up in selfishness and we see facets of that in both positive and negative lights.

Other: She's kind of vaguely, technically dead at this canon point. I'm assuming the thing to do is to just give her a normal human body.

⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

Remember that we ask for samples that show 1) core character portrayal and 2) some use of emotions, such as environmental effect. You can also use the same sample source for both, just make sure to directly link or quote the emotion portion. We highly encourage using the Test Drive, and you can use prompts from the Test Drives, Intro Logs, and the Task board if you need them. Refer to the main application page for links and more suggestions.

General Sample: A finely aged thread!

Emotion Sample:

By some means or another (mail glitter), Alice's signature set of clothes isn't fit to be worn for now, so she's fallen on her backup for the time being - which is to say, free Arehtei pajamas, and she's never been the type to look a gift perojama in the mouth. And, okay, it's cute and soft and all, but not as badass and not as easy to move in as her usual skirts by far, and there's nothing around to catch her interest, which means she's bored, and she doesn't really want to tromp around in bedroom slippers in order to find something better to do.

Really, the only thing that comes to mind is lying face down in the street with the unicorn hat pulled down around her eyes, why not. Yeah, this is okay. Or it sucks but who cares, she doesn't care, nobody's going to come looking for her and she can just lie here forever, so there. The cobbles slowly start oozing, dark mud rising up from the gaps between them. So, two ways this is going to be a problem for traffic, neither of which Alice feels like mustering up a single damn about.

And hey, if she's a problem for someone, they'll have to notice her then. Take that, fools. She's wrapped in cursed clothes and wallowing in mud and still a small part of her is convinced that life is going just as planned.

...So, it's a nasty shock when a carriage clips her twenty minutes later. By this point, the despair mud's had time to start disintegrating the street, and added to her sudden rush of indignant shock, and the existing maze of tunnels under this part of the town, naturally the entire ground falls out from under her. On the bright side, she loses the hat on her way down, and now she's got a lot of free mental space to be really ticked off in.
